The Choice Thru Education, Inc. Upward Bound program will be held at Tufts University from July 5th to August 3rd concluding with a trip, for those successfully completing the program, to Washington, D.C. from August 8th to August 11th. Eligibility requirements attending high school in the fall of 2011; meeting the income criteria; and/or first generation college bound.

What is UPWARD BOUND?  Upward Bound offers to 9th through 12th graders a summer residential program located on the campus of Tufts University in Medford and a 36 week academic year program at the CTE headquarters in Chelsea.  Summers, students live Monday through Friday on campus, participate in classes designed to improve academic achievement and to motivate them to finish high school and pursue college. Afternoon and evening activities include field trips to museums, beaches, amusement parks, athletic events, theaters, tours of college campuses, workshops, speakers, and sports. The academic year offers classes and tutoring in high school subjects including MCAS Prep. Students participate in individualized college counseling and career awareness programs, SAT prep, assistance in preparing applications for colleges and financial aid and campus tours and interviews.( Fee waivers are available for SAT’s and college applications.) Most students receive adequate financial assistance to enter their college of choice. The program is offered at no charge.   Participating students will receive a small weekly stipend.

 
                     
 

The application (online or printed) must be filled out completely and returned with the requested documentation . A student will not be accepted until all forms are returned.

    • Application with income verification as described in application and  eligibility form; transcript from school and transcript release form
    • Social security card and/or alien registration card
    • Medical information and permission form
    • Food service application

Applications are available at 140 Pearl St.and Chelsea High Guidance Office. Upon receipt of application, the student and parent/s will be contacted for an interview.
